A new burger joint came to our town with the interesting brand: SmashBurger. Just right when I got home, I got a tip from our dear friend to alert me the SmashBurger grand opening event last night. For marketing purposes, they generously offered free foods for all customers from 5-8PM. Free dinner during this slow economy (yeah, that topic keeps poping up, ain’t it?!)? Sweet deal, so why not?! Beside I still had like 30 minutes before missing the opportunity window of enjoying a free burger. At the restaurant, the line was long, no empty tables, not to mention I had to hunt for parking space; it was just as I expected. There were staff standing by the door greet customers, smiling and handing out their flyer menu. Apparently, not just the burger was free, but everything on the menu. I mean everything. Fries. Malt. Shakes. Drinks. Burgers. Hot dogs. Salads… They had around a dozen of cashiers and servers there, not counting cooking staff in the nearby kitchen area, take care orders, bring foods and drink to tables, serve and answer customers. Even in that busy chaos environment, they all served with great attitude, great smile, and politely apologize for delay due to the volume of customers. They probably were trained, beside they were to promote their business and appeal customers. But still, you usually don’t get this kind of service when something is given totally free.
Well about the food, the presentation was awesome, in either plate form, or in to-go box. (They gave me in the serving plate, but there was no seats, so I requested for to-go. They quickly brought back to the kitchen, and wrapped the burger, and the fries separated, beautifully packing them into the to-go box. ) My wife was picking up the kids, so she was no where near the burger place. I wanted her to see how mouth-watering appealing the meal was, so I carefully cut the burger in half to save the other half for her. That’s right! It sounds surprising, but yes, I do share foods … once in a while… Well enough about me, back to the burger, it was truly smashing. The 1/2 lbs meat was juicy Angus beef, not overcooked, and flavorful. I didn’t notice any special sauce other than mustard. Even my wife is not a burger fan, she liked it. The fries was mixed with herb and garlic, pretty nice touch!
That was an awesome FREE dinner! I don’t know whether I was caught up in the free deal, or was too hungry, which influences my taste that I praised it too much. You just got to try out for yourself at the SmashBurger near you. Check out their website at http://www.mysmashburger.com. Count on me to go back to this restaurant again in near future to confirm my first taste experience.
UPDATED 03/15/2009 – We went to Smashburger again (I said soon, didn’t I??!) and the burger was as good as our first experience. Hahaha.
